Founded in 1961 the Historical Society was incorporated in 1988 and was able, by way of fund raising events and generous corporate grants, to commence a (relocatable) Heritage Building Acquisition Programme and New Building Construction Programme to house a museum, by March 1979 completing to its present stage by March 2002.
The society membership has fluctuated from a strong nucleus of local farming and business families to a now active volunteer group from all aspects of the local community, currently some 85 members. The aims of the society were originally stated and remain focused on studying the history, the region and its people.
